What is a Blended Term?

A Blended Term enables a Five-Year Graduate School Preparatory (GSP) Program Student enrolled in the last semester of their senior year to simultaneously enroll in a graduate course(s) that will count towards a graduate degree. Undergraduate tuition is charged during this term. Recipients of need-based aid (i.e. loans) and merit-based aid (i.e. scholarships) should pay attention to the section below entitled “Undergraduate Financial Aid in a Blended Term.”

What are the benefits of enrolling in a Blended Term?

By taking graduate and undergraduate courses together during the final semester, a student can ...

  • Begin the transition into a graduate degree program before completing the undergraduate program. This option is available to students that have fewer than five classes.
(15 credits) to complete in their last semester of undergraduate work.
  • Make the MSA Summer/Summer Scheduling Option easier. Students interested in the MSA’s Summer/Summer scheduling option can reduce or eliminate the number of courses that they would otherwise need to take while they are working during the academic year.
  • NOTE: Candidates to the MS in Accountancy (MSA) should review the MSA Guide sheets (for AC/FA/AIS majors) that appear at the end of the “Planning Your Schedule” section of the website.
  • Have the opportunity to interact with experienced professionals. The majority of students enrolled in the McCallum Graduate School of Business are full-time working professionals who average four to six years of work experience. Being in the classroom with these individuals will help you to develop your knowledge of various industries and may present a good networking opportunity.

What makes a student eligible to enroll in a Blended Term?

  • Five-Year students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 in order to be eligible for a Blended Term. In addition, the cumulative 3.2 GPA must be maintained in order to remain enrolled in graduate courses during a Blended Term.
  • Five-Year students need to know which graduate degree program they want to pursue during the fifth year prior to selecting which graduate courses to take during a Blended Term.

Undergraduate Financial Aid in a Blended Term

Aid recipients who adhere to the following guidelines will retain eligibility for undergraduate aid and scholarships during their Blended Term. Please contact the Office of Graduate Financial Assistance (781.891.3168) with questions or concerns.

  • Aid recipients (need or merit-based) must take at least six undergraduate credits and be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits to maintain eligibility for undergraduate aid. Therefore, an aid recipient can enroll in a maximum of two graduate courses during a Blended Term.
  • Students who are eligible for a Federal Pell Grant continue to be eligible as long as they are enrolled as an undergraduate student and have not yet earned a bachelor’s degree.
  • Those with undergraduate merit scholarships (awarded by Bentley College) will be allowed to receive their scholarship in the Blended Term, provided they still meet the GPA or other requirements.
  • If a student is not seeking or is not eligible for undergraduate aid (merit and/or need-based), they are eligible to take a maximum of 3 graduate courses during the Blended Term.
